Dr. Sharlene Somarathne

Dr. Sharlene Somarathne graduated in 2011 from the Royal Veterinary College in the UK. She volunteered in Chang Mai’s Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand before embarking on a charity spay and neuter program for stray dogs in India. She completed an Internship program at a small animal hospital in the UK before moving to Qatar with her husband in 2012 where she worked in small animal practice.
Dr. Sharlene particularly enjoys Cardiology, working up challenging medical cases, and is passionate about communicating well with clients to ensure that they are involved in their pets’ healthcare.
Outside of work, she is kept busy with her lively 6-year-old son and her cat who she treated as a kitten with a spinal injury and went on to adopt and adore.
In her spare time, she enjoys learning Swedish, Book Club, and baking anything that contains sugar!

Dr. Emma Dowall
Dr. Emma graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2014. After completing a graduate program at a small animal referral center, she has since worked in a busy small animal hospital.
Dr. Emma completed a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice through the University of Liverpool, focused on small animal surgery. She particularly enjoys soft tissue surgery, diagnostic imaging, and emergency medicine.
She is passionate about providing the best care for her patients and ensuring their families are kept up to date every step through the treatment of their pets.
Outside of work Emma enjoys travelling, scuba diving, and playing squash.
Since coming to Qatar she has already started fostering dogs and has now adopted her most recent foster, the gorgeous Lily.

Dr. Natalia joins us from Italy. She is extremely experienced having worked the last 11 years in Australia, India, Italy, and Cape Verde.
Dr. Natalia takes great pleasure in seeing challenging cases and delivering a very high standard of Veterinary care. She has specialist skills in abdominal ultrasound and clinical pathology/cytology.
She brings with her a very lucky rescue dog. She loves to continue the veterinary science learning journey and is passionate about attending congresses and lectures in her spare time.

Dr. Beatriz Belda
Dr. Beatriz Belda, DVM MSc Board Eligible ACVS – SA MRCVS
Dr. Beatriz Belda was Licensed by the University of Murcia in 2012 in Spain. She started to specialize and continued her training at a specialty Veterinary Hospital in Valencia (Spain), completing a year of Rotating Small Animal Internship and a year of Small Animal Surgery Specialty Internship at the same center.
She moved to the United States, where she undertook a year-long internship in Small Animal Surgery at North Carolina State University (North Carolina, USA). Beatriz continued at the same institution as a Veterinary researcher in Translational Research in Pain (TRiP), focusing on pain research and publishing several articles in international journals.
From 2018 to 2021, she completed a Master’s in Veterinary Medicine and a residency in Small Animal Surgery by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) at the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital (Indiana, USA).
She currently works as a Clinician in Small Animal Surgery in a highly recognized referral hospital in Edinburgh, Veterinary Specialist Scotland.
In addition, she teaches Veterinary Surgery in the University of Dublin in Ireland as well as to Veterinarians in international courses such as the AOVET, the leading organization in orthopedic surgery worldwide.
She now joins the QVC team as a Specialist Veterinary Surgeon in Orthopedics, Soft Tissue, Oncologic Surgery, and Neurosurgery.
In her free time, Dr. Beatriz enjoys water sports such as scuba diving and playing fetch with her lovely Rescue Goldendoodle, Diego.

Dr. Eric graduated from the University of Melbourne and then worked for a busy small animal practice in Australia. Seeking more adventure he then worked for a large chain of respected western hospitals based across multiple cities in China and Hong Kong, before joining Qatar Veterinary Center.
He brings over a decade of experience with his main professional interests including internal medicine, endocrinology, clinical pathology, and oncology.
He is working toward obtaining advanced qualifications in internal medicine.
Dr. Eric believes in practicing evidence-based medicine and is passionate about educating owners about caring for their pets, especially those with chronic health conditions.
In his free time, Dr. Eric enjoys travelling (his grand goal is to visit 100 countries), movies (he attends film festivals regularly), and seeing and experiencing different foods and cultures.

Dr. T. is joining us from the USA. She obtained her doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee college of veterinary medicine.
Since graduating she has gained extensive experience in clinical practice, relief work, emergency care, and shelter medicine.
She believes client education is the ground to better pet care.
She is particularly interested in dental care, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, nutrition and prevention care.
During downtime, you can find Dr. T. enjoying nature, eating, and catching up with friends and family.

Dr. Louise Robin
Dr. Louise graduated from the University of Bristol veterinary school in the United Kingdom in 2007. She initially worked in mixed practice in the Peak District, treating small animals, horses and farm animals alike, and has concentrated solely on small animal work since 2011, most recently holding the role of senior vet at a large and very busy small animal practice in York.
In 2015 she completed a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Small Animal Medicine) through the University of Liverpool veterinary school, and is an RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine. As such, she really enjoys challenging medical cases and also brings with her much experience in all areas of veterinary practice, including imaging and soft tissue surgery. She also really enjoys getting to know pets and their owners!
Dr Louise has volunteered with veterinary and conservation projects abroad, including helping to teach veterinary students in Ethiopia and in the conservation of leather back turtles in Costa Rica.
Outside of work she is kept busy with her two young sons, and enjoys a good game of tennis when time allows (and the weather is cool enough!)

Dr. Beatriz Belda was Licensed by the University of Murcia in 2012 in Spain. She started to specialize and continued her training at a specialty Veterinary Hospital in Valencia (Spain), completing a year of Rotating Small Animal Internship and a year of Small Animal Surgery Specialty Internship at the same center.
She moved to the United States, where she undertook a year-long internship in Small Animal Surgery at North Carolina State University (North Carolina, USA). Beatriz continued at the same institution as a Veterinary researcher in Translational Research in Pain (TRiP), focusing on pain research and publishing several articles in international journals.
From 2018 to 2021, she completed a Master’s in Veterinary Medicine and a residency in Small Animal Surgery by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) at the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital (Indiana, USA).
She currently works as a Clinician in Small Animal Surgery in a highly recognized referral hospital in Edinburgh, Veterinary Specialist Scotland.
In addition, she teaches Veterinary Surgery in the University of Dublin in Ireland as well as to Veterinarians in international courses such as the AOVET, the leading organization in orthopedic surgery worldwide.
She now joins the QVC team as a Specialist Veterinary Surgeon in Orthopedics, Soft Tissue, Oncologic Surgery, and Neurosurgery.
In her free time, Dr. Beatriz enjoys water sports such as scuba diving and playing fetch with her lovely Rescue Goldendoodle, Diego.

He brings over a decade of experience with his main professional interests including internal medicine, endocrinology, clinical pathology, and oncology.
He is working toward obtaining advanced qualifications in internal medicine.
Dr. Eric believes in practicing evidence-based medicine and is passionate about educating owners about caring for their pets, especially those with chronic health conditions.
In his free time, Dr. Eric enjoys travelling (his grand goal is to visit 100 countries), movies (he attends film festivals regularly), and seeing and experiencing different foods and cultures.

Dr. Louise graduated from the University of Bristol veterinary school in the United Kingdom in 2007. She initially worked in mixed practice in the Peak District, treating small animals, horses and farm animals alike, and has concentrated solely on small animal work since 2011, most recently holding the role of senior vet at a large and very busy small animal practice in York.
In 2015 she completed a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Small Animal Medicine) through the University of Liverpool veterinary school, and is an RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine. As such, she really enjoys challenging medical cases and also brings with her much experience in all areas of veterinary practice, including imaging and soft tissue surgery. She also really enjoys getting to know pets and their owners!
Dr Louise has volunteered with veterinary and conservation projects abroad, including helping to teach veterinary students in Ethiopia and in the conservation of leather back turtles in Costa Rica.
Outside of work she is kept busy with her two young sons, and enjoys a good game of tennis when time allows (and the weather is cool enough!)

Dr. Natalia joins us from Italy. She is extremely experienced having worked the last 11 years in Australia, India, Italy, and Cape Verde.
Dr. Natalia takes great pleasure in seeing challenging cases and delivering a very high standard of Veterinary care. She has specialist skills in abdominal ultrasound and clinical pathology/cytology.
She brings with her a very lucky rescue dog. She loves to continue the veterinary science learning journey and is passionate about attending congresses and lectures in her spare time.

Dr. Beatriz Belda
Dr. Beatriz Belda, DVM MSc Board Eligible ACVS – SA MRCVS
Dr. Beatriz Belda was Licensed by the University of Murcia in 2012 in Spain. She started to specialize and continued her training at a specialty Veterinary Hospital in Valencia (Spain), completing a year of Rotating Small Animal Internship and a year of Small Animal Surgery Specialty Internship at the same center.
She moved to the United States, where she undertook a year-long internship in Small Animal Surgery at North Carolina State University (North Carolina, USA). Beatriz continued at the same institution as a Veterinary researcher in Translational Research in Pain (TRiP), focusing on pain research and publishing several articles in international journals.
From 2018 to 2021, she completed a Master’s in Veterinary Medicine and a residency in Small Animal Surgery by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) at the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital (Indiana, USA).
She currently works as a Clinician in Small Animal Surgery in a highly recognized referral hospital in Edinburgh, Veterinary Specialist Scotland.
In addition, she teaches Veterinary Surgery in the University of Dublin in Ireland as well as to Veterinarians in international courses such as the AOVET, the leading organization in orthopedic surgery worldwide.
She now joins the QVC team as a Specialist Veterinary Surgeon in Orthopedics, Soft Tissue, Oncologic Surgery, and Neurosurgery.
In her free time, Dr. Beatriz enjoys water sports such as scuba diving and playing fetch with her lovely Rescue Goldendoodle, Diego.

Dr. Eric Chen
Dr. Eric graduated from the University of Melbourne and then worked for a busy small animal practice in Australia. Seeking more adventure he then worked for a large chain of respected western hospitals based across multiple cities in China and Hong Kong, before joining Qatar Veterinary Center.
He brings over a decade of experience with his main professional interests including internal medicine, endocrinology, clinical pathology, and oncology.
He is working toward obtaining advanced qualifications in internal medicine.
Dr. Eric believes in practicing evidence-based medicine and is passionate about educating owners about caring for their pets, especially those with chronic health conditions.
In his free time, Dr. Eric enjoys travelling (his grand goal is to visit 100 countries), movies (he attends film festivals regularly), and seeing and experiencing different foods and cultures.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Gulmakai Telwar, (Aka Dr.T.) to the Qatar Veterinary Center Family.
Dr. T. is joining us from the USA. She obtained her doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee college of veterinary medicine.
Since graduating she has gained extensive experience in clinical practice, relief work, emergency care, and shelter medicine.
She believes client education is the ground to better pet care.
She is particularly interested in dental care, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, nutrition and prevention care.
During downtime, you can find Dr. T. enjoying nature, eating, and catching up with friends and family.

Dr. Louise Robin
Dr. Louise graduated from the University of Bristol veterinary school in the United Kingdom in 2007. She initially worked in mixed practice in the Peak District, treating small animals, horses and farm animals alike, and has concentrated solely on small animal work since 2011, most recently holding the role of senior vet at a large and very busy small animal practice in York.
In 2015 she completed a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Small Animal Medicine) through the University of Liverpool veterinary school, and is an RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine. As such, she really enjoys challenging medical cases and also brings with her much experience in all areas of veterinary practice, including imaging and soft tissue surgery. She also really enjoys getting to know pets and their owners!
Dr Louise has volunteered with veterinary and conservation projects abroad, including helping to teach veterinary students in Ethiopia and in the conservation of leather back turtles in Costa Rica.
Outside of work she is kept busy with her two young sons, and enjoys a good game of tennis when time allows (and the weather is cool enough!)

Dr. Sharlene Somarathne graduated in 2011 from the Royal Veterinary College in the UK. She volunteered in Chang Mai’s Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand before embarking on a charity spay and neuter program for stray dogs in India. She completed an Internship program at a small animal hospital in the UK before moving to Qatar with her husband in 2012 where she worked in small animal practice.
Dr. Sharlene particularly enjoys Cardiology, working up challenging medical cases, and is passionate about communicating well with clients to ensure that they are involved in their pets’ healthcare.
Outside of work, she is kept busy with her lively 6-year-old son and her cat who she treated as a kitten with a spinal injury and went on to adopt and adore.
In her spare time, she enjoys learning Swedish, Book Club, and baking anything that contains sugar!
